Hokkaido International School prepares for Swing ‘N’ Shake concert

Hokkaido International School’s spring concert, featuring 150 students from kindergarten through 12th grade, will present a mixture of music, art and drama at the Sapporo Concert Hall Kitara small hall on April 12 at 7 pm.

This year’s event, “Swing ‘N’ Shake,” will feature American music, including Native American music, jazz, musicals, rag time, pop, rap, and film music. Students have been preparing for the event in music classes since October, said  HIS music teacher Yutaka Sugino.

Sugino said student work will be on display in the form of stage sets and displays in the lobby in addition to the shows on stage. The stage shows will include a parody of Broadway musicals as well as a fusion of traditional Japanese Noh and modern dance.

“It will be a very enjoyable concert for all ages and we’d love many people to come,” Sugino said.
