Traditionally, these dishes were prepared beforehand and usually a few days worth were made so as to give the wives much needed rest and a chance to enjoy the holiday! One popular dish to consume during this time is 年越しそば “New-Years noodles”. These longer noodles carry a special significance. Longer noodles makes for a longer life. These locally made noodles use delicious buckwheat grown in Hokkaido’s Tokachi area.
